**What is the Cat to Scare Away Rats?**
This piece serves as a protective charm to drive rats away from homes. The cat, adorned with a bell, appears to be intently watching above, as if waiting for the perfect moment to pounce. True to Kuniyoshi's love for cats, this behavior is beautifully captured. As mentioned in the artwork, "if you hang this picture in your home, the rats will fear it and not come out," cats' images were circulated as rat deterrents during the Edo period.
